• You will need a mane comb, elastic plaiting bands, damp sponge, hair clip.
• Start with the forelock and work your way down the mane from the top.
• Damp the forelock with the sponge.

• Separate the forelock into three bits.
• Plait down and gather the edges of the hair in as you go (this is called a French plait) and keep it tight all the way down.
• Once you get past the tufty bit at the top, just plait in the normal way down to the bottom.
• Turn the little straggly end bit under before securing an elastic band to the end.
• Fold the plait up three times underneath itself and secure the head of the plait with another band, as tightly as possible. Then add a second band around the head for good measure.
• Move onto the neck, starting at the top.
• Fix a plaiting band onto your comb to the width of plaits you want down the neck and use this to measure all your plaits, so they are uniform.
• Measure the first section of mane you are going to plait.
• Use your clip to hold back the remaining mane and keep it out of the way.
• Damp the patch you are about to plait.
• Divide it into three sections and then plait downwards, keeping it pulled very tight all the way down.
• Again, fold the very end under before securing it with a band.
• Roll three times tightly into the neck and fix with another plait (make sure to keep the band as tight to the neck as possible).
• Use a second band for good measure.
