About this video
Ffion Thomas at Polly Williamson’s Wiltshire yard, with presenter Laura Bechtolsheimer. Ffi, was previously Polly’s head groom and is now a freelance groom and 2* event rider in her own right. She prefers plaiting with bands as they are quicker to put in than using a needle and thread and easier to take out without damaging the mane. This clip details how to French-plait the forelock as well. Ffi provides an excellent demonstation which is likely to convert the most ardent 'needle and thread' person!

Ffion Thomas's key points for plating with bands

  • You will need a mane comb, elastic plaiting bands, damp sponge, hair clip.
  • Start with the forelock and work your way down the mane from the top.
  • Damp the forelock with the sponge.

LazerSpeed 25 Aug 2008 Fab! Rolling instead of folding really does make all the difference.
Fiona Price 23 Jun 2008 Now on the site. We filmed a piece at the Badminton Estate Stables!
15 Jun 2008 I agree I thought that thread was the only way to do this really neatly and yet it seems not. I shall be using bands from now on! Can we see them done with thread too??
Olivia Kuropatwa 13 Jun 2008 I found this extremely helpful! I never knew plaiting with bands could be that neat.
