About this video
International event rider, Kitty Boggis at her Wiltshire yard, with Louisa Brassey. Keeping your horse looking their best for competition is one of those constant jobs! Kitty, who is renouned for her high standard of turnout, makes quick work of trimming whiskers, jaw line and ears on her well behaved advanced eventer, Kings Cross. Easy peasy!

Kitty Boggis's tips for trimming whiskers and ears

  • Don’t tie the horse up in case they pull back. It’s easier and safer to move with the horse if they move.
  • Use a headcollar and put the rope over the horse’s neck.
  • Small, quiet clippers are better for this job (as opposed to normal large clippers used to do the body of the horse).
