About this video
Brian Higham at the Badminton Estate Stables, with Fiona Price presenting. Brian demonstrates the dying art of singeing with a hand engraved tool. Though there was a sharp intake of breath from the crew when he lit the wick, the horse enjoyed the sensation of warmth from the flame as Brian combed the instrument smartly across his body. Any cat hairs were removed, leaving a sleek and tidy coat. Fascinating video filmed in a wonderful setting. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!

Dressage_junkie 9 Dec 2008 Hmm. I don't think my horse would mind (although I'm not going to do it). But I have put my hand through a flame that was burning yellow/orange and it didn't burn at all and I kept it their for as long as Brian was doing it (maybe 2 seconds on my finger). It is amazing. I don't think that grey even notices and greys are known to be temperamental.
marianne 29 Jul 2008 Interesting but very scary! I think I will stick to clippers too!
star 30 Jun 2008 This does look like a scary way to get rid of those frustrating cat hairs, however all that trouble I go through trimming and grooming them away when in twenty mins they could be singed away. But I agree with ogk08 I am going to stick with my clippers because all the horses I know would not approve of the hot flame!
Olivia Kuropatwa 13 Jun 2008 I always find those cat hairs frustrating during that winter - spring period. One might say this is an 'interesting' method of removing them. However I myself will stick to the clippers! That horse is impeccabley well behaved!!
