About this video
Carole Levitt at Laura Bechtolsheimer’s Gloucestershire yard, with Harry Meade presenting. Mucking out is never a favourite job but it’s one of the most essential parts of horse management. The Bechtolsheimers’ stables (and yard) are immaculate. Carole shows us how to keep them looking good. Trust Harry to lower the tone at the end!

Carol Levitt's mucking out tips

  • Take the horse out of the stable or tie him up
  • Take out visible droppings.
  • Toss the clean straw into the banks.
  • Work right through the banks to the floor checking for and removing droppings as you go.
  • Remove any wet straw and check under the water drinker for further damp patches.
