About this video
Standing in front of her magnificent lorry (more like a ‘mobile palace’ than a horsebox), Laura shows us what equipment she packs and takes to competitions and demonstrates loading with her 6-year-old gelding Dan, who is in a playful mode. Some good tips here. As we publish this video Laura is, no doubt, packing up for the Olympics! Presented by Laura Bechtolsheimer and her groom Carole Levitt at Laura’s Gloucestershire yard.

Laura Bechtolsheimer's packing system for travelling

  • Packing the horse box must be done in an organised fashion.
  • Have a check list so that you don’t forget anything.
  • Keep everything in its designated space so you can find it when you need it.

Claireness 8 Mar 2009 I love that horse, bless him!
Fiona Price 3 Mar 2009 I think it partly depends on the floor in your lorry. I have an excellent rubber floor and don't put bedding in for short journeys. Flooring aside, I think the argument for longer journeys (and Laura mostly travels to the Continent) is to encourage your horse to pee!
JustHelen 3 Mar 2009 Interesting as a lot of people say never to put bedding down in the lorry. Is it different for short and long journeys?
Fiona Price 3 Jan 2009 We'll be making a video on loading difficult horses in due course!
VicBlakeman 3 Jan 2009 Lots of great tips, but it would be much more helpful if it the horse that was being loaded was being a pain!
