About this video

This behind the scenes footage of the Driving Grand Prix at Windsor '09 offers a fabulous insight into the sport of horse driving trials. It's all so different to ridden sports, from the horse accommodation to the lorries which must be capable of carrying horses, stabling, harness, people and carriages! Fiona Price meets Shetland pony driver Aart Van De Kemp (11 times Dutch National Champion) who eventually finished third in the Pony Team. She talks to the charming Dutch Koos De Ronde (third in the Horse Team) and meets Karen Bassett (GB World Champs' team member) who was coping with some last minute changes of plan!

BilsdaleHedgehunter 9 Jun 2010 I really love watching the driving classes, please can we see more, even better would be to see a full report on one of the driving trials (I would have suggested Lowther but it's stopped running) from the UK! George Bowman Snr and Jnr are both local legends to my area, and I grew up watching them exercise 4inhand on a saturday morning!
Tabanac 28 Sep 2009 Karen started driving with Shetlands, a wonderful team of skewbalds that her father started. She certainly knew them intimately - we used to ride them bareback, tearing around the woods behind her parents farm! I really enjoyed this video seeing her with her "grown up" team!
Kizzia 15 Jul 2009 Great video!! Didn't know Trakehners were used for driving as well! I know they make great dressage and jumping horses though (My mare's a Trakehner, and a fab jumper).
Silver Snaffles 4 Jun 2009 Another brilliant video!
tandemaniac 28 May 2009 Aart van de Kemp Jr drove a team of Shetties at Catton in '05 as well. Dad won the marathon and son won the cones.
