Anyone found a bit that is comfortable for a pony but gives good brakes for a low weight small rider?

When I help at Pony Club I see allot of ponies in a bit I know as a Dutch Gag. It seams comfortable for the pony and has a number of rings for reins to attach to which means that it can be used in a similar way to a snaffle or with a more serve action. Some children use 2 reins or move the single rein onto the ring they require for different disciplines.

Below is a link to a picture and somewhere you can buy it on-line. Here they've called it a Continential Jointed Snaffle, but its what I mean!

You can get it with differnt types of joinings and also in 'happy mounth' too.

Thank you for this. I've been away so have only just seen your reply. I'll give it a go. Certainly if it works for Pony Club events then it will probably work for our pony...

The other one you could try is a Tom Thumb gag (ironic since my name is Tom!!). It worked really well for our pony when she was being ridden by little people and she seemed very happy in it. Never cuts her mouth either which is good. For dressage when it has to be a snaffle then try one with a hanging cheek so that it gives a little poll action for more brakes. Also there is a snaffle with slits in the bit ring which you attach the cheek pieces and reins to. Again, this gives a bit of leverage which helps small kids. Hope this is useful!!!
