About this video

Douglas Dorsey put Laura Bectholsheimer on the map, winning her the dressage National Champion title. When he decided he didn't want to compete anymore, Laura made the decision to retire him to a life of leisure with 'the herd'. Laura describes the emotional day she rode him to the field, untacked him and simply turned him out. After living in pampered luxury, he took to the great outdoors in no time ensuring the others knew who was boss! Douglas was keen to join Laura when she later rode by on Alf (his stable mate and travel companion of many years)! Knowing he wasn't looking his best, Douglas was a little shy when he met Fiona Price!

Carlos 24 Jul 2009 Dougi, all the best on the field and enjoy your retirement. He's the greatest!
Laura Bechtolsheimer 14 Jul 2009 There are 2 three year old chestnut ladies with him and 2 horses that are not in fact that old, but were retired many years ago. One is Placido my young rider horse who developed a tumor on his tendon and the other was a small tour horse of my father's who was ill and so was retired early. They are both now about 16 and 19 and have spent years enjoying the fields here at home but have now got some tough competition in Douglas!
Analogue 11 Jul 2009 How old are the two really old ones? It is really nice to see Douglas looking happy in his retirement!
caroline 10 Jul 2009 Fantastic! One sees so many horses where every last bit of useful working life is wrung out of them and they aren't allowed to stop until injury/illness force it and then there isn't often a dignified retirement awaiting! If only all could have such a wonderful retirement. Such a lottery where they go on their journey and where they end up....lucky horses to be with Laura and Dr. B.
Diana 10 Jul 2009 I love Douglas Dorsey! The first time I saw him was at Wellington, he was being ridden by Dr B in a Grand Prix prize giving and was very charasmatic!
