BLOG HEAVEN!

We are caught up in Olympic fever at Horse Hero as a number of our featured riders are out in Hong Kong. Seeing their pictures and hearing their stories is pretty amazing and helps to satisfy the 'wanabee' (an Olympic rider) thing that many of us have. The biggest sporting event on the planet has a mystical allure about it but it is also an event like any other, with it's trials and tribulations and it seems crazy for the sake of politics and commercial interests, that people and horses have to endure such an extreme climate to try to produce the performance of a lifetime.

NEW VIDEOS:

Kitty Boggis trimming Kings Cross

Trimming whiskers and ears: Trimming seems to be a constant job to keep your horse looking their best for competition. Event rider, Kitty Boggis, who is renouned for her high standard of turnout, makes quick work of trimming whiskers, jaw line and ears on her well behaved advanced eventer, Kings Cross.

Breeding from your mareBreeding from your mare: If you have you ever thought about breeding from your mare, this is for you! It's easy to assume that because 'she's a mare she can have babies' but, just like people, some are more suitable for breeding than others. So before you go to the cost of trying to get your mare pregnant, find out what expert Chris Shepherd from Willesley Equine Clinic has to say as he takes us through an examination and assessment. Presented by Louisa Brassey, this is an extremely informative video with some great advice.

NEW BIOGS, BLOS & VIDEO DIARIES:

Vittoria Panizzon: Italian event rider, Vittoria continues to astound us with insights from Hong Kong including, "Mel and I are now kitted out with endless amounts of un-laced white underwear from our late night shopping." She arrived before the British Teams and has been entertaining and informing us about life at the Olympics. She is also sending us photos for her blog almost every day so you really get a sense of how surreal life is there. It's a must and completely addictive!

Checking out the view in Hong KongThe team!

Sharon Hunt: We are delighted to announce a new Biog page and Blog from British event team rider, Sharon Hunt who has just arrived in Hong Kong. Sharon has been blogging throughout July about her build-up for Hong Kong and her experiences in quarantine at Stow-on-the-Wold where she says, "The exercise equipment is strategically placed so we can exercise and watch team-mates having lessons at the same time, very handy!"

Laura Bechtolsheimer: Laura and Alf (Mistral Hojris) are also at the Games. She says, "They loaded as if they flew everyday and none of them had got scared when their pallet was lifted onto the plane – you cannot imagine my relief! Alf has lost 20kg but that is fairly normal for him after such a journey and we had planned for that with his weight beforehand."

Mounted Games for adults: Another new blogger is Alex Franklin. Alex is the British Mounted Games champion. So much for the myth that mounted games is something you only do in Pony Club! Alex, age 23, who has just qualified as a vet travels the world on her tiny pony, Blue, to compete in championships. This is an eye opener!

Horse Hero team training Part 6: See 'Features' opposite. This is the best episode in the Horse Hero Squad Training diaries to date. It's genuinely hysterical. Eventer, Harry Meade turns Laura Bechtolsheimer and Louisa Brassey into a 'panto' horse (of "very poor breeding!" he says). It's free. Enjoy!
