About this video

British Pony team member Claire Gallimore reveals why Gigolo is called 'The Beast' and tells Fiona Price her aims for the lesson with Olympic dressage rider Laura Bechtolsheimer. Laura says Claire's body position must only influence Gigs positively and riding with too short a neck is like riding with the handbrake on! Claire must lengthen the frame by letting the neck out in front of the saddle. She also has to use her seat to hold Gigolo in rhythm and let go with her hand. The pair practise walk-trot transitions using bend to get Gigs even in the contact, and Claire is surprised by Laura's explanation of extended walk! (First of two videos.)

Milo 2 Feb 2012 I love watching Laura train other people and their horses. You can clearly see the difference in this pair at the end of the lesson! Also, I know how hard it is to change something in our riding, as "muscle memory" takes many repetitions to correct.
Ems147 22 Jun 2011 I really like this video, it gives some great insights into how Laura rides and trains.
Killian Sheahan 16 May 2011 Hi, my horse goes nice, round, supple and light in the contact as suggested in the video. However in canter, she tends to become flat and finds it more difficult to come round. I have tried letting the contact out a bit but she just runs and then I have to just take back a hold. Is there anything I can do to get her to stay in the same frame she goes in when trotting? Thanks
VickiF 13 Oct 2010 This is excellent! Laura is a natural at instructing but the video itself is relevent to us all. Great training!
claregalli 9 Sep 2010 A very educational video. Having watched some of the other videos with the top riders to see how they achieve balance and more collection and engagement, it is good to see an up and coming rider. There are many aspects from this lesson that I can take away and use on my own horse and also use to help a friend with hers. It is good to see the lower levels being thought.
