  • A winning attitude is eveything!

On Thursday I headed through to Perth to my final Champions in Schools visit. It was all about winning attitudes. I was so pleased with my class - so many of them told me what they have achieved since I first saw them and loads brought in medals and plaques. It was really inspiring to see them all so eager, not only to have achieved, but to tell me all about it too. We also saw a film by Mark Beaumont who has cycled from Alaska to the southernmost tip of South America, climbing the two highest peaks in the process. He was a Champion in Schools last year but due to his adventure he couldn’t take part this year. His film was great and his documentary is on BBC1 next week and will be amazing if you feel the need to be inspired. The favourite question of the day was "Do you have your own plane". I wish!

Unfortunately I had to go back to uni’ for the afternoon, which was less than exciting. My evening was good though, Laura and I were busy deciding how Amy should wear her hair for our Half-way Ball on Saturday. At 10pm I realised that for my LGV hazard perception test, which I’d booked for Friday, I needed both my driving licence and its paper counterpart which was at home. What a loony! I had no choice but to drive home and got there by 11.30pm. At 6am the following morning I was not only incredibly confused but tired too when I realised my alarm meant powering it back to Glasgow ahead of the traffic to be at my test for 8.15! So I couldn’t believe it when I passed with 85%, although the person at the desk didn’t think I looked much of a lorry driver. I do the multiple-choice part next Tuesday.

I got my hair done at lunchtime. I’m now rather blonde and Dad laughed when I got home – nice! Hannah and I went bag-packing in Falkirk with some of the juniors to raise funds for the Scottish Equestrian Vaulting Team which we help coach. Mum had an interesting phone call from the commentator of the Allow Half-marathon, who had realised I was doing the race and rang to say he’d be looking out for me. I’ve to make myself known to him at the start. When I got home I had an email confirming a donation we'd been given to our WEG fund through the ‘donate’ button on our website. It was from a friend of Karen’s (one of our parents and part-time vaulters) and was very exciting and so generous. Every little does help to fly Henry out to WEG in Kentucky! The race is tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes in my next blog!
