Whether or not reining is your sport, this is a must! GB team rider Doug Allen (with team mate Francesca Sternberg) provides a fascinating insight into reining. Doug talks about why they start horses so young, the reasons for the jog and lope gaits and how they work two and three year olds to develop the balance and suppleness required for reining 'patterns'. Stable jockey Ernie shows very early work in the two year old while Doug demonstrates the progression in training with the three year old, who has started spins and sliding stops. Doug says patience is vital, plus making it easy for the horse to do the right thing, and the 'W' word!
