About this video

Leading British dressage rider Laura Bechtolsheimer discusses bitting with Sprenger MD Heinz Baumann. Laura admits she knows less about the conformation of the horse's mouth than she should and asks Heinz to separate the fact from the fiction. Heinz says his views have changed as a result of recent research into space in the horse's mouth and the functioning of the tongue. Using Laura's youngster Step, Heinz calculates the size and shape of the bit that will most suit him. Laura asks renowned trainer Klaus Balkenhol for his views. She then asks Brigitte Schulte which double bridle to introduce her youngsters to.

shm 28 Apr 2010 Zebra Products, MD, Simon says to FionaA: the bits featured are the KKUltra snaffle and the HO Weymouth Bwaveheart - the snaffle does not have to be jointed however Sprenger's research at the Hanover University has shown that double jointed bits fit horse's mouth more sympathetically than other shapes. An American in Copenhagen - thank you for your comments. The horse's mouth is the most sensitive part of the animal we communicate with and yet amazingly most riders of all levels know so little about its anatomy and how the function of bits affect it. Euterpe - thank you ! Zaartje - thanks again !
FionaA 25 Apr 2010 Another wonderful and informative video. Could you please tell us the name of the Sprenger bits featured.
Bwaveheart 25 Apr 2010 Does the snaffle bit have to be jointed? I notice that there was no mention of mullen mouth bits. Is there a reason for that?
