• Stand to the left of the horse holding the bridle in your right hand and holding the front of the horse's head at the same time.
• Put your fingers under the snaffle bit and your thumb through the ring, also hold the Weymouth so it is not hanging.
• Put the fingers of your left hand in the corner of the horse's mouth, to open it.
• Hold the noseband up as you begin to put the bits in the mouth.
• Gently put the bits in, first the snaffle, then the Weymouth ensuring they do not touch the horse's teeth and put the bridle over the horse's ears. Pull out the forelock so no hair is trapped.

• Put the reins over the horse's head being careful not to touch the ears.
• Stand to the left of the horse holding the bridle in your right hand and holding the front of the horse's head at the same time.

• Check the browband is not too tight and does not pull on the back of the horse's ears.
• Use a padded headpiece for extra cushioning on the poll and behind the ears.
• Fasten the throatlash. You should be able to get a fist underneath it, at the back of the jaw.
• Fasten the noseband. Carl uses a pad under the back of the noseband to protect the bones behind the jaw.
• The noseband shouldn't be too tight or too loose. Fasten it as if for a normal snaffle bridle so you can get one finger underneath it.
• Also ensure there is a finger's space between the bottom of the horse's cheek bone and the noseband and that it is not too close to the bits.
• The snaffle bit is the same width as you normally use, the Weymouth is a little wider than normal but not so that you can pull the bit through on either side of the mouth. Conversely, not too snug as it could pinch. The ring of the snaffle is smaller than you normally use.
• Take the curb chain off and flatten it by holding one end and twisting to the right. (Carl prefers to use a rubber guard over the chain).
• Attach the chain to the hook on the right side of the bit (facing forwards) first, hooking it from the outside.
• Ensuring the chain remains flat, attach the other end to the hook on the other side, this time hooking from the inside of the chain.
• The Weymouth should lie at 45 degrees to the horse's mouth.
