About this video

Fitness coach Jon Pitts helps 3* eventer Flora Harris (winner of Express Eventing 2010) to become aware of the influence of her pelvic balance on her horse's approach to a fence. Like most riders, Flora's attention is on the way her horse is going and addressing any issues. Her position and balance into the fence is instinctive. However, in working on a figure of eight on both reins and a serpentine jumping exercise, Jon helps Flora to recognise that her pelvic preference has set up a weakness in her horse. Changing Flora's balance improves her horse! (The first part of this video focuses on Flora's pelvic balance in flat work.)

Fiona Price 3 Apr 2011 There are a number of videos on this subject in the Library under Training - body work for riders and more is being filmed at the moment!
JBJD 3 Apr 2011 At last some videos highlighting the effect riders have on our poor horses. In the past and currently riders (including Flora in this video) and instructors concentrate too much on the horse and blame them for being uneven when actually it is us being an incumberance to the horse. It is only when our own imbalances are corrected that you realise it is rider error. Keep up the good work Jon I know you have a hard battle trying to convince riders it is them causing the problem and not the horse.
Fiona Price 5 Mar 2011 Great feedback, thanks! We have more planned. They have revolutionised my riding too, so I am keen to do more...There are others along these lines in the Training category of the Library, under 'Body Work for Riders'.
An American in Copenhagen 5 Mar 2011 My mind has been blown between this and the Tai Chi videos you did earlier. These have made such a huge difference to the way I ride and to the way I think about problems in my horse's performance. Nobody has ever told me *I* was unbalanced but now that I've tried these techniques I can see that it was my horse who was struggling against *me*, not the other way around. Just wow! Please keep posting more videos like these!
