I was a bit nervous on Saturday as I embarked on my first little dressage comp of the year. In the warm up (a lovely sand school), I was a bit worried about a spooky bit of hedge, a few barrels etc, and also the fact that my horse seemed to dislike his flash strap. I was contemplating taking it off as he stopped for what I thought would be an itch, at which point he LAY DOWN with me, bewildered on top, right in the middle of the warm up! Not much warning, no pawing the ground, just a very stupid 18.1 hh horse lying down amongst a fair few dressage riders. When my foot (still in its stirrup) hit the floor I decided it was time to bail out, which was very easy considering my proximity to the ground.

He got back up, I got on and we continued on with the day. But I do think that has to be the funniest thing that has EVER happened to me on horseback. So I thought I’d share it with you all here!

Well done! You should have stayed on, as long as you knew he wasn't going to roll. When I spot my horse lying down in the field I put my hat on and her headcollar or bridle while she's still lying down and sit on her back. She gets up after a while and walks around with me on.

The funniest thing to happen to me was not only funny for the people watching but highly embarssing for my instuctor. There was a little girl riding a fluffy little pony and it absolutley refused to jump so my instructor decided to show off and "Oh dear let me show you all how to jump". She mounted canterd around positioned herself towards the jump and a few strides before the jump the pony walked. She smacked him and yet he still refused to jump. I put my hand in the air and asked if I could have a go. I mounted walked trotted and canterd around the school working him in well and shortly turned him into the jump and successfully cleard the jump. If looks could kill I would have died 20 times over.
