About this video

Reining trainer and top rider Shane Borland changes four year old Junior's usual environment, to replicate going away away from home or competing at a show. With plenty to spook him and take his attention, Shane plays the 'passenger game' to observe Junior's level of anxiety. "Tiring your horse into submission will get him fitter but it doesn't tell you where his mind is" says Shane. Using a technique to de-spook Junior to the banners on the perimeter of the arena, Shane also shows 'hunting the circle' to get Junior's attention in an imaginary collecting ring. "The horse is a creature of comfort, so he can work things out for himself if given the chance".
