How to present in hand and trot-up, in the show ring

About this video

"There is an element of showmanship in presenting your horse to the judge and trotting up in-hand", says top producer Sam Quiney. Demonstrating with 2011 Show Pony Society Champion, Wilderness Fancy Spice, Sam explains how she stands Spice in front of the judges to maximise her conformation. She also shows how to stand a horse correctly for showing which, surprisingly, isn't standing square! "It's more of an open posture," says Sam, who then walks Spice away as she would in the ring, turns a loop and trots back past the judge. Sam makes it all look very easy but, clearly, there is an art to showing your horse off to best advantage!

Fiona Price 27 Mar 2012 There is quite a lot of other showing content with Louise Bell. There are also trot ups with eventers and in-hand work in some of our breeding videos with Lynne Crowden from Woodlaner Stud.
nixipixi 27 Mar 2012 Defo more showing and in-hand videos's please! Have a 3yo potential large riding horse going to her first county show this year and would love some more tips! Brill video, thanks!
Fiona Price 27 Oct 2011 The reason is to attract the pony's attention so she puts her ears forward and looks pretty ('smiles') for the judge!
maria-1504 27 Oct 2011 I'm wondering what she is doing with the sand. Why is she picking it up? Is there a reason for this?
candgeorge 26 Oct 2011 Very good video, but as a judge please may I add that the positioning shown is in 'training mode'. I have seen this in a class and it really puts me off, just falling short of arranging legs as if showing a dog!
