About this video

Grand Prix dressage rider Hannah Biggs trains Amy McCormick and the 8 year old Vaz, who are currently working at Medium level and aimed at Young Rider team selection. The focus is on relaxation, softness and straightness for Vaz who can be lazy off the leg initially and then over-react. Hannah explains her system of leg aids to ensure Vaz maintains the correct tempo himself, and for getting an even contact into both reins. Hannah says "with a tense horse you have to think more carefully about the consequences of your aids." Using transitions and adjusting the neck position within different tempos, achieves the required relaxation. (Part 1 of 2)

DBGuk 22 Jan 2012 There are some simple nuggets of genius that work in this video - thanks!
Fiorano 14 Jan 2012 Followed these tips from Hannah today and was amazed at how much better my mare went in her trot work...relaxed, soft in the contact and moving forward. The canter was not quite so sucessful so still a work in progress. Thank you Hannah.
keentolearn 14 Jan 2012 Just loved this video. Many trainers talk about stretching and picking up but it was great to see and hear such clear insructions from Hannah. Also, to see the change of gears in action and how to deal with tension was invaluable. My horse is very tense and hangs on the right rein so I have gleaned some great tips here! More like this please. Thanks to Amy too and Vaz for giving such a good demo of how important relaxation is and how important it is to get it back when you lose it in a transition from one gear to the next. Can't wait for part 2......
Madelinski 13 Jan 2012 Such subtle adjustments and yet so effective!
Fiorano 13 Jan 2012 Very useful to watch this video. I have a little mare who is also built uphill which means she struggles to lengthen her neck and relax. Will certainly give Hannah's tips for relaxation and softness a try.
