About this video

Father and son team Mike and Ferdi Eilberg train the World Champion 5 year old mare Woodlander Farouche. "The work is aimed at preparing Farouche for the standard required for the 6 year old Championships, without interferring with her natural movement and flair", says Ferdi. To improve her lateral work, Mike creates more expression in the trot, as the effort of crossing the hind legs takes up some impulsion. Ferdi says, "if the bend is available, start putting some sideways to it". Mike and Ferdi discuss and adapt their training to find ways of increasing Farouche's understanding and the mare's willingness to learn is a joy to watch!

Flyingchange 9 Feb 2012 Aaaah ok. I knew the purpose of overreach boots but was a bit thrown when I had seen them on the front and back elsewhere and in this video Farouche only has them on the back. Thanks for the reply. I've learned so much from Horse Hero. Keep up the great work!
Fiona Price 8 Feb 2012 Boots are for when horses are learning to go sideways, and later to prevent them standing on themselves when learning piaffe and passage.
Flyingchange 8 Feb 2012 What a beautiful mare! When I saw her at Nationals it was awe inspiring! I might just be being a bit thick but why have people started putting overreach boots on the hind feet? I've seen it a few times now with various people and am curious.
EveKEF 23 Jan 2012 Just wanted to thank Mike for the tips on teaching my boy the change using a loop, put it into practise today and it worked a treat. So thank you Mike!
cally1 22 Jan 2012 So inspiring. Ferdi you are a hero!
