About this video
Joanne Eccles is the top British vaulter and a world class athlete. We follow Jo and her sister Hannah (GB's top junior) through their competition at the first selection trials for the European Championships '09 where they won the Individual and the Pairs competitions. First we see them perform their 'compulsory' and then their 'free-style' routines in the Individual competition. Then we see them in the Pairs. We also find out what makes them tick. You will be amazed at the stunts they perform not just on the horse but above it! Vaulting seems to be a heady mix of gymnastics, horsemanship, art and sheer nerve! We salute these heroes!

charlieboy 27 May 2011 I'm so glad you put vaulting on this site as I wondered what it was all about as you don't see it at the big shows on TV. I think the girls have a great advantage having a dad who does the lungeing and so they can train as much as they want to. I would love to have a go even if I am getting on a bit. the extra fitness exercise the girls do off the horse shows how dedicated you have to be. It is interesting to see how the body moves to cope with the movement of the horse. It would be a good thing to try on a well schooled horse with that thick pad so that riding dressage on a saddle would feel more natural because your body would know how to move in tune with the horse's movement. Fabulous!
BekB 3 Sep 2010 Wow! About halfway through I was in awe when they were doing their individuals and standing up on the horse. Then in the pairs Jo lifts Hannah, dear me my heart was in my mouth but they pulled it off effortlessly! Wow.
LadyJennivieve 15 Jul 2010 Did they get easter eggs for prizes?
deb3514 25 Aug 2009 AMAZING! That last pairs routine was awesome! I would love to have a go. You girls are fab!!!
Fiona Price 7 Jul 2009 We loved filming vaulting and think the same as you Equixtras! However, we hope we are making a start at raising the profile of the sport by featuring it on the site. Read Jo's amazing blogs too!
