My horse seams to have a sweet tooth! No matter if he’s kept in or out all he ever seams to want is his bucket feed! He’s not greedy as such but any time I’m around he keeps whinnying at me for food. When he has his feed he eats it and then holds the bucket in his teeth and waves it around for more. It is very cute but also a bit upsetting, as he never seams happy with what I give him!

Hi, how about making it harder for him to find or get to his food, would that occupy him for longer without you having to give him more?

You could try hiding carrots in his bed / haynet / stable. You could give him his bucket of feed and put large smooth stones in with it so he has to eat around them!(Obviously make sure there too big for him to eat, and not rough or sharp) If he has carrots / apples / swede how about hanging them from strings so he has to work harder to eat them? If he has nuts put them into a Jolly ball so he only gets a few at a time.

All of these things sound like boredom breakers but may just mean you get a bit of peace and quiet whilst your doing your other jobs!

I have had a similar problem and found a lot of what milsky suggested very helpful. A few extra things to note though are if you are going to put carrots in your bedding make sure he isn't either a) going to start eating his bedding too and b) going to develop a cough from dusty bedding. I found that instead of putting nuts in the feed, putting them in a ball. So that way he wont be getting any extra, hell just take a lot longer to eat it. Also use a round one as it wont drive you mad rattling round the floor. This is the one I use: http://www.robinsons-uk.com/products/ProductList.asp?topGroupCode=004&parentGroupCode=0401&page=7#sku.49402
