I wrote all day yesterday and was feeling pretty good and looking forward to finishing some writing and having a reasonably early night, when Daisy called from home to say that Orsa had virtually collapsed. She rushed her to the emergency vet and the vet told me she thought she had gone into septic shock. The membranes in Orsa’s mouth were white, her heart rate was racing and her temperature was high. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and I am so far away. The vet told me she would do everything to keep her comfortable but that it wasn’t looking good. So much for an early night!
After what felt like hours the vet called Daisy to say that Orsa had responded to the high level emergency fluids and was still flat but at least showing signs of interest in stimuli. Her organs were all ok which was a huge relief and she would monitor her through the night. I am hoping that it isn’t quite as serious as the vet first thought and that she has a secondary infection elsewhere which has triggered the collapse. She is obviously on antibiotics too. I am waiting for news this morning and am pleased that I did not get a phone call in the night. I am hoping that this means our beloved dog is still responding to the treatment.
HURRAH! The vet just called Daisy and Orsa is back up on her feet! Her temperature is dropping and she may be able to come home this afternoon. Not quite sure what on earth has happened but am assuming that she has a UTI or something and I will get the full details later. So its back to writing all morning then a visit to the shelter to work with some dogs before the two day workshop which starts tomorrow. I have friends messaging to say that bad weather is due to hit the UK at the weekend, so I really hope that I can actually get home!
